Long awaited update!

Recently, there have of sad patients...35 y/o woman found down in cardiac arrest outside of a shopping mall and pronounced dead at the hospital w/o any known cause. drunk girl vs. tree, man vs. Metro (suicide attempt), man vs. 4th floor jump (suicide attempt)... and a lot of other stupidity. Young girl w/ depression and some kind of coagulation disorder that overdosed on Coumadin and Benadryl. I apparently walked in on a very old school but effective gastric lavage to see if they needed any help and literally, her vomit flew across the room at hit me in the face. Nice.

Of course there is the usual weirdness. A 24 year old rational (or so I thought) thinking girl asked me if the apple juice I brought her, in the clearly marked and sealed apple juice cup, was in fact somebody else's urine and was convinced that it was despite my attempts to assuage her fears. She refused to drink it and kept going on and on about how it "smelled like urine." Um... I didn't even know what to say.

Then today I had a very sweet 90 y/o WW2 vet who was on some trip from Kansas to see the WW2 memorial who fell off the top bunk this morning and came in w/ a fractured rib. He was being discharged and was being wheeled out to his car when he literally slumped over in the chair. Yes, he went into cardiac arrest. He was coded two times and brought back successfully! He completely came to, was speaking appropriately and we got to do a lot of chatting throughout the day. Eventually he was telling me how he was on Facebook. I seriously considered friend-ing him! So cute!
