The story of my day! Picked up a day shift..... 7a-3p today. Slept 3 1/2 hours before going to work in the pouring rain. Definitely off to a good start. Then, got to work, and had 5 patient assignments. No biggie. Got the day started out by helping with a STEMI - my favorite kind of patient. (For my non-nursing friends, that is a: non-ST elevation MI = heart attack). Poor guy had to admit that he started having chest pain after having some early morning sex...
Had a series of truly bizarre patients. A seizure patient that had a significant head trauma some time ago sang me a love song with his slow slurred speech. Another patient wanted to be evaluated for her chest pain (as she is clutching her armpit), oh and also, the redness on her ear, the bug bite on her neck, the rash on her legs. And, my nemesis for today - a lady who wanted to get treatment for the intestinal parasite that her ex-best friend gave her AFTER this said friend had an affair with her husband. this was "not in her imagination" and she was "fearing for her life." She also had a major crush on the doctor who was taking care of her. She asked me to keep her stool sample hidden from him, she didn't want him to see it....... *sigh*
Then there was a drug-seeker who of course came in my ambulance, laid in the bed, threw her arms up in the air and said "I'm having a stroke." Ok. Sure. Whatever you say.
Then there was my man in the hallway who kept grabbing his testicles because "they were about to explode." ????????????? Nevermind that he was just evaluated for the same exact thing yesterday but said he wasn't able to "tolerate the Percocet." This was fun as he admitted to being an IV drug abuser... very very hard to get a good line on him.
3:30 couldn't come fast enough, and by the time I gave report on my 6 patients I was outta there! Tell me why I signed up for 3-11 tomorrow.... I think my wallet is making decisions without me.
Off to bed to recuperate the lost sleep from last night!
